Description
Wow! This is the first word that came to my mind when I stepped foot on this amazing property and words simply cannot describe everything that this property has to offer. The Big Stone Bluff Ranch was originally homesteaded by the seller’s family back in late 1800s and is now offered up for public sale. It is a true wildlife oasis and sportsman’s dream much less offering up multiple scenic building sites which are going to be very difficult if not impossible to match. For starters, the property has just under a mile of shoreline on legendary Big Stone Lake. Big Stone is a freshwater reservoir lake on the border of Minnesota and South Dakota. It is roughly 27 miles long and encompasses over 12,000 acres. From a fishery standpoint, Big Stone boasts populations of about any fish species that you could imagine including a healthy population of walleye and jumbo perch. Public boat access is located a mile just south of the property. Moving up from the shoreline, basically, the entire length of the property has some of the most beautiful rolling virgin oak woods that I have ever seen that. There are multiple draws, plateau’s, funnel areas, and oh yes, deer trails all over not to mention multiple scenic overlooks of the lake. It should be noted that Big Stone Lake State Park is just a quarter-mile from the north border of this property which is a wildlife sanctuary. This and being that there has been minimal hunting pressure on this property over the years, it is no wonder that the deer sign is more than abundant. The area is known to produce some monster bucks and you can bet that once the ag. fields get harvested to the east, more and more deer congregate to the wooded portions along the lake and this property has plenty of that. The property also has many isolated areas in which one could put in food plots. Besides this, there are just over 27 acres of current tillable ground that has an average CPI of 84 with a renter in place that provides income or, I couldn’t even imagine the number of deer that would utilize the property if this was left in a large food plot. Deer aren’t the only wildlife on the property and all along the “lake road” up from Ortonville, I can’t tell you how many turkeys I have seen and you can bet that you’ll have your crack at some big toms in the spring. Pheasants? I’ve personally seen them on the property and again, including some food plots or expanding some native prairie habitat will only boost the already great habitat. Interested in waterfowl, the area as a whole is arguably one of the best areas of the state for waterfowl hunting. I could go on and on about the wildlife on this property but give a call and I’d love to discuss it further. The property also has two farm sites both with views of the lake, existing houses, barns that are in very good shape, multiple outbuildings, wells, power ready to be turned back on, and two steel Quonset sheds that are in great shape. Need some pasture areas for horses or cattle, not a problem. There are ample areas mainly on the southern and eastern portions of the property that can be turned to pasture. All in all, one truly has to see this property to fully appreciate not only it’s beauty but all that it has to offer!
