This property is located approx. 1.8 miles S/SE of Padua or approximately 4 miles W/NW of Elrosa. I’ve personally spent a good amount of time chasing pheasants in the area and specifically at times around Padua. In my opinion, the general area stretching from Paynesville to Glenwood is a sleeper for the number of game species it produces consistently. I can speak on being a part of hunts that have produced limits of roosters and know of some really good deer taken from the area. The property is a general mix of dotted wetland pockets and prairie (restored and remnant, in my opinion, which I’ll get into). I like the character spread across the entire property instead of a big grass block and a large wetland complex. There are areas of very nice tall upland prairie grasses (Big Bluegrass and Indian Grass) and, as hinted at above, in my opinion, some remnant prairie. Why do I say this? Some forb species made me do a double take as you don’t see them on restorations all that often, if at all. To his knowledge, the seller confirmed my suspicions that some areas were always just pastures prior to his owning them. At any rate, all of it makes a great mix for pheasant hunting, as well as who knows when a good buck spends the night on the property or travels through it.
The property has been restored and is in a Pheasants Forever / Fish and Wildlife Service conservation easement. The nice thing with this is prairie landscapes need management to thrive, and the FWS intends, from what I am told by the seller, to do the management work. The one very nice thing is that there was an approximately 5-acre building site left out of the easement. This is located in the NE corner of the property, including the wooded area and some grassland outside, which would be a great spot for expanding upon a food plot area. There is also a very expansive amount of public land in the area, including those areas that provide access to water to duck hunt, and I have visions of a hunting camp or home on the property. If interested, please do not hesitate to call me, and we can discuss this in further detail.
