The Legendary Pratt Ranch was established in 2011 and is a truly special place offering countless outdoor recreation opportunities including exceptional Trophy Elk, Mule Deer and Waterfowl Hunting, Fishing, Biking, Hiking, Horseback Riding, Off-Highway Vehicle Riding, Camping and Ranching. Located in the stunning Zuni Mountains of Game Management Unit (GMU) 10, it is comprised of 7,047+/- deeded acres, 1,400+/- acres of State Trust Land Lease and 640 acres of BLM Lease, all comprising some of New Mexico's pristine mountain wildlife habitat. The property is located within the Cottonwood Creek drainage which leads to nearby Bluewater Lake. The ranch has a long history of Conservation Management practices through habitat improvements made throughout the property to increase the carrying capacity of the landscape for Elk, Mule Deer, Waterfowl, Trout, and Warm Water Fish Species. The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish has recognized the Pratt Ranch as a Special Management Ranch over the last 14 years because of the work that has been done for Conservation. Complementing the property are two center pivot irrigation sprinklers providing agriculture fields with precious water during the summer growing season. All water rights will convey with the ranch to support the irrigated agriculture fields. Managing this property for elk has been the primary focus. Elk are resident on this property with an increased numbers in the fall as rutting activity causes more movements and congregation of animals in agriculture pastures. It’s not uncommon to see groups of elk feeding on and around the agriculture fields.
Historically, the Zuni Mountains have produced trophy sized bull elk with some scoring over 400 inches and some mule deer reaching the 200-inch mark.
In 2024 the Ranch was allocated 18 Elk Authorizations to include one incentive Elk Authorization with early hunt dates designations as listed below:
1-Any legal weapon Mature Bull Authorization valid October 1-December 31 (any 5 consecutive days).
5-Any legal weapon Mature Bull Elk Authorizations (can be used during muzzleloader or rifle season any 5 consecutive days).
8-Either sex Archery Elk Authorizations.
4-Antlerless Elk Authorizations.
